How We Built Buddy’s Auto Center

We are an owner-operated business led by Rich, Julie, and Rick, and that owner involvement matters. It means our standards are personal. Just after the 1964 flood that wreaked havoc on Humboldt County, Buddy’s Auto Repair was started in 1965 by Otis “Buddy” and Marilyn Harrell in Willow Creek, CA. Buddy’s was primarily a repair shop that grew into a towing company serving eastern Humboldt County. In 1999, Rick and Julie Stewart purchased the small company from Buddy and Barbara, and Buddy’s Auto Center, Inc. was born. From that 3-truck fleet, the company has expanded to four strategic locations in Willow Creek, Arcata, Weaverville, and Redding. This family-owned company strives to provide excellent service with their certified and knowledgeable employees, full fleet of trucks and equipment, and a desire to help the motoring public. “Big or small, we do it all!”
Over time, we have grown in response to real needs in the market. We recently expanded through the acquisition of another towing company, which strengthened our reach and allowed us to serve more people more effectively. At the same time, the industry has shifted. When a competitor shut down, demand increased, and we stepped up. Growth for us has never been about getting bigger just to say we did. It has been about being better prepared when our communities need us most.
